JOHOR BARU: Suspended Ledang MCA division chief Datuk Goh Tee Tee has announced his resignation from the party.

       The 66-year-old said after getting input from various people, he has decided not to appeal against his five-year suspension by the party’s disciplinary board.

       His departure from the party comes just two days after former Pontian MCA division chief Datuk Tee Siew Kiong quit the party following his own five-year suspension.

       Goh, a former one-term Tangkak assemblyman (2008-2013), said he came to the decision with a heavy heart.

       “I have chosen not to appeal against the suspension because it would not have made a difference.

       “My parting wish is for the party’s central leadership to unfreeze the Ledang MCA division or at least allow the deputy chief take over as acting chief to ensure the division’s activities can go on as usual.

       During a press conference here on Saturday (May 28), Goh also removed his party shirt and scribbled 28/5/2022 to mark his departure from the party.

       Both Goh and Tee were referred to MCA’s disciplinary committee for speaking up after not being fielded as candidates in the March 12 Johor state election.

       Tee was called in for an inquiry after he held a press conference on Feb 25 claiming he wanted to "explain myself to my supporters and voters over the reason why I was not fielded as a candidate".

       Goh, who is Ledang division chief, claimed that MCA did not consult the division’s wings before fielding a candidate, resulting in the loss of the Tangkak state seat.

       Both men were given 14 days to appeal against the suspension.

       Earlier this month, MCA deputy secretary-general Datuk Dr Pamela Yong said the party’s disciplinary board had handled all complaints against members fairly in accordance with the party’s rules and regulations, without exception.
