IPOH: The state government will part ways with Majuperak Utilities Management Sdn Bhd after its contract is up in November, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
The Mentri Besar said it would not continue with the concessionaire's garbage collection and cleaning services after a recent meeting with them.
"We have decided not to continue after the two-year contract ends.
"The local councils (that use their services) will have to manage domestic waste like before, whether to use their own workers or outsource to another contractor," he told a press conference after the state-level Meeting the Customer Day at Stadium Indera Mulia on Tuesday (June 7).
Last month, Saarani said he would meet with Majuperak management over the concessionaire's failure to handle garbage collection that had piled up during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations due to lack of manpower.
Saarani said they have received a lot of proposals from other contractors offering their services.
"The respective local councils will have to make their own decisions on whether they want to accept (the services) or not.
"The local councils need to have due diligence and to see if they can afford the contractors," he said.
