Use it as a health record system, says MMA

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is lacking a crucial electronic medical record system that is secure and accessible by healthcare providers, and MySejahtera may be able to fill the gap, says Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) president Dr Koh Kar Chai.

“What’s missing now is seamless care for the health of the people.

“Currently, there are many times when healthcare records are not accessible across healthcare facilities or providers.

“The MySejahtera app may be used as an initial effort to have medical records that can be carried by the individual to allow for access by healthcare providers as and when needed,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Koh said the app could be put to better use as it had been adopted by a large number of the population, from the young to the old.

“The contact tracing feature of the app should still be preserved as we will not know when the next pandemic will turn up.

“The MySejahtera app can also be adapted to be used as a personal health record as it is already linked to individual IDs and is non-transferable,” he added.

However, Dr Koh still raised concerns over the app’s data security, especially after what had been reported about its ownership.

“It is hoped that the government will continue being proactive in securing the trust of the people in the app,” he said.
