IPOH: Teenagers will still get their Covid-19 vaccine according to their appointments as only walk-ins at public vaccination centres (PPV) have been cancelled.

Perak education committee chairman Ahmad Saidi Mohamad Daud said the state was just informed about the matter by the Education Ministry.

The appointments are those made through MySejahtera or the Malaysia Vaccine Administration System (MyVAS), he added.

"Students who want vaccination should follow their given appointment date, time and venue," he told reporters after witnessing the vaccination programme for teenagers at SMKA Sultan Azlan Shah in Bota on Thursday (Sept 23).

Ahmad Saidi said 13,727 teenagers in the state have received their first dose since Monday (Sept 20).

He said the Perak government would continue to assist the state Health and Education Departments in ensuring that the vaccination of students proceeded smoothly.

"The response from parents has also been encouraging and beyond our expectations.

"Some parents came to the PPV to ask whether they can register their children for the vaccine," he said, adding that there were 41 PV for teenagers in the state.

"This shows that parents want their children to be vaccinated before school reopens.

"I hope more parents will continue to encourage their children to get vaccinated to keep their family and the community safe," he added.
