SEREMBAN: A 27-year-old human resource executive who wanted to apply for a part-time marketing assistant position lost close to RM112,000 to an online scam here.
State Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Aibee Ab Ghani said the woman, who is from Senawang near here, came across the vacancy on Aug 29, purportedly offered by an e-commerce company on Facebook.
“She contacted an individual named Annie from the site to get more details.
“She was then told that she would have to make upfront payments for goods purchased by the company for which she would be paid a 10% commission from the total sales,” he said.
The woman was also told to contact an individual named Michell, who was the company’s customer service manager, as well as a Mr Tan from the credit management section.
After that, the woman was offered the position.
“She then transferred cash from her savings as well as her father’s bank account to four different bank accounts,” Supt Aibee said.
“But when she tried to contact the duo after making the payment, she could not get through.”
