MENTAKAB: University students and the Human Resources Development (HRD) Corp have joined forces to carry out flood clean-up work.
HRD Corp chief operations officer Datuk Ariff Farhan said they were at Taman Mentakab Indah in Pahang.
"We have chosen to go where we are needed most, where the people need the most help but help has yet to be fully mobilised.
"We have 150 HRD Corp volunteers, Mahsa University students and members of the public with us.
"The floods in this housing area reached the rooftops, the destruction and loss has been almost total," he said on Monday (Dec 27).
Ariff added that the area still had no water and electricity, which made clearing and cleaning more difficult.
"We are trying to clean at least 100 homes today, and distribute food aid to 500 homes.
"There are more than 500 homes in this area," he added.
According to Ariff, HRD Corp had received a lot of help from donors, Vit's which gave us noodles for 1,000 homes, and mineral water from other donors for 1,000 homes.
"It is these donors and volunteers who keep us going. Tomorrow we'll go again," he said.
