KALABAKAN: It was a torturous two-hour journey through rough terrain and jungle to send the single-dose CanSino vaccine to residents of Kampung Serudung Laut, here.
The 70km road from Kampung Kalabakan to Kampung Serudung Laut is only accessible via four wheel-drive vehicles.
As such, 15 Kalabakan 4X4 Club vehicles were use to ferry the vaccines and 30 members of an outreach vaccination programme.
The members from the Health Ministry, Armed Forces, Information Department and the National Security Council were all smiles to see 300 residents, including 50 foreign workers, coming for their jabs.
“Kampung Serudung Laut was selected due to its geographical location,” said Sabah Information Department deputy director Harun Maddasa.
“This is vital because we want to ensure the residents get the vaccine despite living in the interior.”
Winner Julius, 33, was thrilled to be vaccinated with CanSino.
He said the single-dose vaccine is more convenient for residents in the interior.
“So I must take advantage of the outreach programme which the government has specially brought to our village. I am thankful to receive the single-dose vaccine. Any vaccine is good enough,” he said. — Bernama
