BEIJING: Petronas' innovative solutions in providing clean, renewable and sustainable energy fits well with the dual carbon goals of China, says its president.

       Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Kamadjaja Aziz said the Malaysian oil and gas corporation has undertaken a phased shift to integrate renewable and lower carbon solutions.

       “Our journey for the prosperity and energy security of China is aligned with its targets in achieving Carbon Peak by 2030 and Carbon Neutrality by 2060,” he addressed the audience via live-streaming from Malaysia during a virtual celebration to mark Petronas' 18th year anniversary in China on Monday (Nov 29).

       Tengku Muhammad Taufik, who is also the group chief executive officer, pointed out that the company has supplied liquified natural gas (LNG), petrochemicals, crude oil, petroleum products and lubricants to the Middle Kingdom over the years.

       He is confident that the relationship would continue to grow stronger.

       “We believe China has the opportunity to gain greater benefits in securing a reliable supply of low-carbon energy solutions from increased collaboration with Petronas,” he added.

       In July, Petronas signed a 10-year LNG supply agreement with a subsidiary of China's offshore oil and gas major CNOOC Ltd.

       Recently, the company delivered its first carbon neutral LNG cargo to China under an agreement signed in September with Shenergy Group Company Limited.

       Malaysian Ambassador to China, Datuk Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, said Petronas, as Malaysian national oil and gas custodian, has played a vital role in strengthening the bilateral ties and boosting economic confidence of the two nations.

       He said the 18-year journey has showcased the trust the company has fostered with the local business partners, associates and communities.

       “Their trust not only underpins their business ventures, it is also an invaluable asset for unleashing the potential of the partnership between Malaysia and China,” he added.
