SIBU: A soldier has been sentenced to 18 years' jail and 34 strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court on Thursday (April 28) for raping and sexually assaulting his daughter.

       The accused pleaded guilty before Judge Marutin Pagan to raping his 16-year old daughter three times in their room of a longhouse from March 11 to April 26.

       Judge Marutin sentenced him to 18 years in jail and 10 strokes of the rotan for each of the three charges.

       Muhamad Hakimi was also sentenced to three years in jail and one stroke of the rotan for each of the four sexual assault charges under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offence against Children Act 2017.

       Judge Marutin ordered that the sentence be run concurrently from the date of arrest which is on April 21.

       The case came to light when the victim told her teacher on April 12 that she had been raped by her father.

       A police report was lodged by the 34-year old teacher which led to the arrest of the accused.
