Authorities said it appears the man who died fired at a group of people, at least one of whom returned fire that fatally struck the initial shooter. Two men were wounded in the exchanges.
The shooting occurred about 5:10 p.m. near 16th and V streets SE in Anacostia. Police have not released the identity of the man who was killed.
Police said they are investigating if that shooting is related to another fatal shooting that occurred a little more than three hours later and three blocks away, at 14th and W streets SE. Police said Kalif Brown, 28, was pronounced dead on the scene.
