KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has officially retained power after winning 48 seats in the state election as of 9pm, according to the Election Commission (EC).
This gives GPS a simple majority in the 82-seat state legislative assembly.
Local-based Opposition outfit Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) won two seats - Ba’kelalan and Engkilili - so far.
A record 349 candidates contested across all 82 seats in this election.
Besides GPS, there were nine Opposition parties and 30 Independents in the fray.
