A MUM-of-one burned with boiling water from a faulty Premier Inn kettle couldn't treat her injury because the shower in her room wouldn't work properly.

Emma Clark, from Portsmouth, Hampshire, was a guest at the Crewe Central hotel in Crewe for one night on December 15.

She had filled the jug with water and waited for it to boil before picking it up ready to pour herself a morning beverage.

But when she tipped the water into her mug, an unstable top lid caused too much to rush out the top and Emma's right thigh was scorched.

She said: "I'm angry that this happened to me. I really wanted to go and have some rest and this happened.

"I felt it straight away just this instant burning on my thigh and down my leg.

"I started out crying but I was ok once the shock had settled down."

While stunned and in pain, Emma called the hotel's reception for help and two workers came to her aid.

The 28-year-old claims they rushed her into the bathroom but when they went to put her leg under cold water, the water pressure was too low.

A Premier Inn spokesperson has apologised for the incident and is being investigated by the company's senior guest team.

Emma blames the faulty kettle for not latching correctly and causing the burn.

She said: "It should catch, but obviously didn't, and the whole lot emptied out onto my thigh. When you're on your own you think 'what do I do now?'.

She ran a towel under the cold water tap and draped it over her leg, but when the staff arrived to help, the water in the bathroom's shower wasn't helping.

Emma said: "The tap would turn and some water would come out but the pressure was really low so there wasn't enough water to cool the burn down."

She is grateful her four-year-old daughter wasn't with her too or it could have been her that got injured.

A Premier Inn spokeswoman said: "This issue has already been escalated and is being handled by our senior guest team who will liaise with the guest directly as we fully investigate what has caused this unfortunate incident.

"We are sorry to hear of Emma's injury and send her our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

"As soon as our team were aware of the issue the site team called 111 on the guest's behalf and assisted her with a cold compress as well as providing breakfast in her room."
