Hamas caves amid ceasefire deal fears as it makes pledge on hostages

Hamas has released the names of the three hostages due to be freed on Saturday, after days of fears the fragile ceasefire deal between the group and Israel would not last.

The names issued by the terror group on Friday were those of Russian-Israeli Alexander Troufanov, Argentinian-Israeli Yair Horn, and US-Israeli Sagui Dekel-Chen.

The Palestinians had threatened to postpone the release of the hostages after accusing Israel of violating the terms of the recently brokered ceasefire.

In response, Benjamin Netanyahu's government vowed to resume their bombing campaign if the hostages were not freed on time.

US President Donald Trump also said the ceasefire should be annulled if Hamas did not fulfil their part of the bargain by midday on Saturday.

The first phase of the ceasefire should see the release of 33 hostages over the course of six weeks, in exchange for some 1,900 Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israel.

So far, 16 Israeli and five Thai hostages have been freed in exchange for 566 prisoners since the ceasefire came into effect on January 19.

Both sides have complained about violations of the ceasefire, as tensions remain high between the warring parties.

Israel has objected to the staged managed release of the hostages, with the Israelis forced to stand next to Hamas gunmen in front of large crowds of Palestinians.

Hamas, for its part, has accused Israel of preventing the delivery of the agreed amount of aid for Palestinains in the Gaza strip.

Meanwhile, the mother of one of the freed hostages has opened up about the conditions her daughter faced while kept as a prisoner.

Liri Albag was released on January 25 along with two other women - Daniella Gilboa and Naama Levy. They had been held in captivity for 15 months.

Liri, Naama and Daniella were all in their teens on October 7, 2023, when Hamas fighters stormed their outpost at Kibbutz Nahal Oz near the border with Gaza.

They were doing their mandatory military service as unarmed “spotters,” tasked with looking at activity inside Gaza and reporting back to commanders at another base.

Liri's mother, Shira Albag, told CNN: "Liri most of the time was in apartments with civilians.

“It was difficult because they needed to do some things for the people of the house — to clean the house and to cook for them and to sit with the children and try to teach them English or play with them.”

“They didn’t treat them nice,” she said of the captors.
