MORE than two million crimes have gone unsolved in a year — as knife crime and shoplifting soar, figures show.
Culprits in England and Wales got away scot-free nearly 6,000 times a day in the year to September.

Home Office statistics reveal that a staggering 2.18million offences were closed with no criminal identified — a nine per cent jump on the year before.
Fewer than six per cent of all crimes resulted in a suspect being charged or summonsed.
Figures show that knife crimes alone have rocketed by 77 per cent, from 27,498 in 2015 to 48,716.
Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “Enough is enough.

“Britain cannot afford more of this damaging decline.
“Labour will restore the rule of law on Britain’s streets and in our town centres, and take urgent action to keep our young people safe from knife crime.”
Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesman Alistair Carmichael said: “The Conservative government has totally failed to get a handle on crime.”
Home Secretary James Cleverly said the Government’s plan to protect the public was working.

He said: “Since 2010 our communities are safer, with neighbourhood crimes including burglary, robbery and theft down 48 per cent and violent crime down 51 per cent.”
