SEREMBAN: Police are appealing for public information after a newborn baby girl was found abandoned near construction workers' quarters in Taman Ara Sendayan near here.

       Seremban police chief ACP Mohd Said Ibrahim said the baby's mother must have given birth less than 12 hours before she was found.

       "We received a call from a member of the public just before noon on Tuesday (Sept 7) that the baby had been left on a patch of grass near an old kongsi.

       "The baby still had her umbilical cord intact when the caller found her," he said in a statement.

       He said except for some insect bites, the baby was unharmed.

       ACP Mohd Said said the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for exposure and abandonment of a child under 12 years of age.
