Naked groom taped to traffic lights wearing only socks and sandals in stag do prank outside Essex shopping centre

A SEMI-NAKED man was tied to a lamppost while wearing just his socks and sandals in a stag-do prank.

The lad in his pants was taped to the pillar outside a shopping centre in Basildon, Essex.

It's believed the man - named locally as Jack Wilkins - was fastened to the post near the Beehive pub during his stag.

In a video, shoppers are heard laughing as they walk past the groom, who is tied up with thick tape.

He's heard calling out to another man who is watching from the pavement.

The man who is tied up twirls around the lamppost, which is on a traffic island.

'TEARS OF LAUGHTER'

A bid has been launched to get Basildon's "socks and sandals boy" to turn on the town's Christmas lights.

The petition to Basildon Council has been signed by more than 100 people and described the man as a "local sensation who has bought tears of laughter to many".

It said: "This act bought tears to shoppers, sounds of horns from passing vehicles and of course prides of joy to successful stag group.

"Shares of photos and videos still swamping social media it would only seem right that “Socks and Sandals Boy” would be the only clear candidate to turn on Basildon Christmas lights this year wearing his famous attire one more time.

"Basildon, Essex… LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN!!"

The video was uploaded to Twitter last week by one user who wrote next to it: "Do something Staggy."

He suggested the man was his friend on a stag do in a reply to a comment - with the footage leaving people in hysterics.
