PETALING JAYA: Seven more landslides were recorded by the Minerals and Geoscience (JMG) Department on the first day of 2022, bringing the total nationwide during the current northeast monsoon to 140.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said six landslides were reported in Selangor and one in Negri Sembilan.

“JMG has informed the respective local authorities about the landslides (and they) will submit a report to the state JMG for landslide inventory during this period,” it said.

Nadma said that until 10am yesterday, the Public Works Department (JKR) recorded other incidents including floods, landslides, collapsed roads and damaged or collapsed bridges at 53 locations.

It said 96% of the 1,039 communication infrastructure affected by floods has been repaired.

“They include those located in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Port Dickson, Rembau, Seremban, Pekan, Raub, Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor and Gombak. A total of 32 communication structures are still under repair,” it said.

Nadma said that as at Dec 30, 85% of cleaning work by SW Corp Malaysia had been completed in flood-affected areas in five states.

“These states are Pahang, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. There were approximately 2,269 tonnes of waste at the transit sites and 4,142 tonnes at landfills.

“Cleaning involved 2,286 workers and equipment totalled 908,” it said.

Nadma said an updated Disaster Operations Preparedness Notice had also been issued by the National Disaster Control Centre, which included instructions to state and district Disaster Management Committees to be ready for imminent crisis, especially in high-risk areas.

“The state or district Disaster Management Committees must also ensure that relief centres are equipped with basic necessities and that the Control Post on Scene has sufficient assets that are in good condition,” it said.
