MELAKA: Fireman Mohd Walid Sidi from the Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Department and his team were deployed to a house in Bukit Beruang after receiving a distress call at 6.15pm on Monday.
They broke down the front door when they heard a baby crying inside.
“When I arrived at the house, I found the baby crying loudly inside a room which was air-conditioned.
“I knew the baby was hungry for milk and the child was shivering because of the cold,” he said in an interview yesterday.
Mohd Walid, 26, said as a father of a two-month-old baby boy himself, his colleagues asked him to help pacify the crying child.
He said the child’s uncle, who rushed to the house after being informed of the incident, helped him prepare milk for the baby.
“I felt like I was feeding my own boy at that point,” he added.
“I knew the child needed milk after being stuck in the air-conditioned room.
“My focus at that moment was to stop the baby from crying, (so I tried) singing a lullaby,” Mohd Walid said.
He was among six firemen who rushed to the house to rescue the child and a woman, who is believed to be the baby’s mother.
It was learnt that the woman, who is in her late 30s, suffered a muscle cramp after falling down inside a bathroom.
A neighbour who heard the noise alerted the Fire and Rescue Department.
The woman was rushed to Hospital Melaka while the baby has been handed over to a relative.
