Icelandic volcano erupts in molten inferno

In a mesmerising display of nature's power, a recently formed "baby" volcano in Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula has undergone a dramatic collapse, throwing out "spatter bombs" of molten lava into the air.

The volcanic activity, which started less than two weeks ago, emerged from a 1.7-mile-long (2.7-kilometre) fissure caused by an underground eruption.

Prior to this event, the region experienced a "seismic swarm" of 7,000 earthquakes.

In a recent Facebook post, the University of Iceland's Laboratory of Volcanology and Natural Hazards reported that the crater filled up with lava, leading to fountaining that propelled spatter bombs beyond the crater's edges.

Subsequently, a small rupture formed, allowing lava to spill over the crater's rim, triggering a section of it to collapse and unleashing a river of lava toward the north and west of the volcano.

Authorities from the Icelandic Met Office reassured the public that there is no immediate risk, as the immediate vicinity around the volcano is uninhabited.

Nevertheless, residents living on the nearby Reykjanes peninsula were advised to remain indoors and keep their windows closed due to potential toxic gases.

Scientists classify this recent eruption as a fissure eruption, which typically does not result in large explosions or a significant amount of ash in the stratosphere, according to the Icelandic government.

The astonishing lava seeping from the crater exhibits a staggering temperature of approximately 2,192°F (1,200°C), offering a glimpse into the intense geological forces at play.

While this event is a captivating sight for many, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and well-being of the local communities.
