PUTRAJAYA: Lawmakers and members of the Dewan Negara are attending a briefing on the Constitutional amendment that will be tabled in Parliament on Monday (April 11).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob arrived at the Puspanitapuri Complex here at 5pm on Sunday (April 10) for the closed-door briefing.
Also spotted were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin and Works Ministers Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Also present was Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun.
It is understood that the briefing is held by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
The special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat to table and debate the Constitution (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2022 will take place on Monday, and a special sitting of the Dewan Negara will be on Tuesday (April 12).
The tabling and debate will involve the enactment clause under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution to allow a new law prohibiting MPs from switching parties.
However, the Constitution (Amendment) Bill on anti-party hopping, which was previously scheduled to be tabled, debated and passed at this special sitting has been postponed.
The tabling and debate of the anti-party hopping Bill was postponed for the second time after it was scheduled to be tabled for the first reading on March 24.
This special sitting is the third in a year after a special meeting on the Proclamation of Emergency and Emergency Ordinances was held on July 26 last year and on flood issues on Jan 20.
