KEEPING on top of mowing the lawn can be a chore.

       But if gardeners choose the right time of year, it can be easy to keep on top of.

       Time to get out there because growth will start in spring.

       Mow with a high cut on preferably dry grass.

       April

       With the temperature increasing and growth does as well.

       So it is best to increase frequency with twi weeks then 10 days.

       Following this then perhaps down to weekly mowing.

       May & June

       It is likely to be warm and wet in May so during this time now frequently — weekly if possible.

       Cutting height can be lowered to about 4cm.

       July & August

       In the middle of summer it can be dry.

       If so, growth will be slow.

       Therefore you only need to mow every two weeks.

       But if moisture levels are good mow as for May and June.

       September

       The autumn rains make for good growing time.

       That means you will have to mow frequently.

       Lower the cut if you raised it for the summer.

       However, if your lawn is prone to moss you want to be raising the mowing height not lowering it.

       October

       Growth is slow, so mowing will all but finish.

       Raise the cut to winter height.

       November

       This will be the last regular cut of the year.
