KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer Siti Kasim has announced that she will be contesting in the Batu parliamentary constituency in the upcoming 15th general election.

       She is part of the Gerak Independent movement, who have declared that it will stand in several seats in GE15.

       At a press conference here on Thursday (Feb 17), Gerak Independent unveiled six candidates that it will field in GE15, with more to be announced.

       Siti said the group has identified 15 constituencies that it is interested in, but it will field no more than 10 candidates.

       Other candidates that Gerak Independent has confirmed are Ravee Suntharelingam (Wangsa Maju), KJ John (Petaling Jaya), Charles Chow (Subang), Roland Cheng (Kota Kinabalu) and Tawfik Ismail.

       Tawfik, who is the son of Malaysia's second deputy prime minister Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman and also former Sungai Benut MP, is still undecided on where to contest.

       "I could contest in Pontian or Simpang Renggam, which was my former constituency of Sungai Benut.

       "I could also contest in Mersing, Pagoh, Ampang or Langkawi," said Tawfik.

       The other constituencies that Gerak Independent are targeting include Segamat, Tebrau, Batu Pahat, Bandar Tun Razak, Sandakan, Batu Sapi and Gombak.
