KUALA LUMPUR: A foreigner who got angry and swore and made lewd gestures at a security guard after he was admonished for not wearing a face mask at a shopping mall in Jalan Ampang has been arrested.
Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the suspect came to the Wangsa Maju police headquarters at around 8.30pm on Monday (April 18) to have his statement recorded after he realised a video of him not wearing a face mask went viral.
"We arrested the suspect to help facilitate further investigations and released him on police bail," he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 19).

He said the suspect has been identified as a 44-year-old Canadian man who works and resides in Kuala Lumpur.
Supt Ashari urged the public to always comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the National Security Council in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.

It was reported on Sunday (April 17) that police opened an investigation paper regarding the incident.
An 18-second video that had been uploaded on TikTok and Twitter was detected on Saturday (April 16) and a report was lodged by the shopping mall’s security.
