PORT KLANG: Khairy Jamaluddin has assured the public that Covid-19 vaccines are being sent to vaccination centres and states as soon as they arrive.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister said all targeted vaccination exercises depended on the supply received.

"Everyone is asking for the vaccines and states have been asking as well.

"The shipments are coming. I am not sitting on any vaccines," the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister told a press conference on Friday (June 25).

Khairy, who was visiting the vaccination centre for maritime industry workers with Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong here, added the vaccines would be distributed to vaccination centres and the respective states as soon as the consignments are released by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).

Khairy explained that the utilisation of the available vaccines stood at 90% currently, meaning that if 100 vaccines arrived at vaccination centres, 90 of them are used up.

"The remaining 10% acts as a buffer for appointments in the coming days," he said.

He said given that the vaccines are used up soon after arrival, some vaccination centres were currently nervous as they did not have that many doses with them and were awaiting the arrival of a new batch.

He said the 90% utilisation indicated the ministry's efforts in ensuring that as many people as possible are vaccinated.
