PETALING JAYA: The man who claims to be the owner of the suitcase with over RM500,000 in it has told police that the cash was a repayment for a loan he had given to a friend.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that the man claimed that there were two such bags and that he did not realise that the second suitcase had not been put into his vehicle when he drove off from a shopping mall here.

“It was only when he wanted to retrieve the bags from his car the next day that he realised a bag had gone missing,” Comm Hussein said when contacted by The Star.Comm Hussein said the man had given his statement on Saturday, adding however that more statements would be recorded from the man, especially on how he had accumulated the money.

On March 20, the suitcase filled with cash was found by a security guard at a shopping mall car park here.

A company director had then come forward to claim the suitcase, and a report had been filed in Shah Alam.

However, when summoned, the director initially failed to show up at the Damansara police station.

When contacted yesterday, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Jaa’far @ Ismail said the man finally presented himself on Saturday to the police and gave his statement at 4.30pm.
