TAMIL Nadu is the state with the most ATMs in India, numbering 28,540, Malaysia Nanban reported.
This is based on latest statistics issued by the Reserve Bank of India.
The south Indian state is the sixth most populous in the country.
It overtook Maharashtra, which was in first place until recently and currently has 27,945 ATMs.
Uttar Pradesh, with the highest population in the country, has 23,480 ATMs. As a comparison, Uttar Pradesh has one ATM for every 8,000 people while Tamil Nadu boasts one ATM for every 2,700 people.
India, with an estimated population of 1.3 billion, has 12 government banks and 22 private banks, 43 regional rural banks, and numerous foreign banks operating in the country.

Director AM Kishok, who also plays the titular hero Viman and his alter ego Venkat, said he was confident the movie would be well received by Malaysians.
The film features local actress Jasmin Michael as the heroine Shalini. It tells the story of an ordinary man who gains superpowers.
