YONG PENG: A former art teacher is putting his skills to good use while campaigning for the Yong Peng seat.
DAP's Alan Tee Boon Tsong, who has some 15 years experience teaching art and painting to adults and children prior to joining politics, came up with a series of drawings featuring popular local food for his campaign posters and billboards.
"Yong Peng has a lot of nice food, which often invokes good memories.
"This is my way of reminding the voters to come home to vote," said Tee, 43, in an interview.
He also hoped that the posters would lead to food sellers getting more customers.
The former Senai assemblyman was passionate about his subject matter such as the famous Fook Chew noodles, fish balls, deep fried pork balls, red mee sua and baked biscuits.
Tee said he would usually take about 10 minutes to complete a drawing using pencil, and another 10 minutes to add watercolour to it.
Asked about his campaigning, Tee said he would continue to reach out to as many voters as possible.
"The walkabout remains important as our online ceramah and videos have not garnered very high views.
"Some people are still sceptical about me being 'parachuted' here to contest, but some are okay," Tee added.
It will be a three-cornered fight in the Yong Peng seat with Tee going against Barisan Nasional's Ling Tian Soon and Susan Yong from Perikatan Nasional.
