IPOH: Local products that can create anxiety among the people will no longer be allowed, says Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

The PAS deputy president was referring to the controversy over the "Timah" whisky brand and said that the Cabinet had made a decision on the matter following a meeting with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and the National Unity and Integration Department.

"We called the liquor company to state our objections.

"The Cabinet then decided that it would no longer allow the manufacturing of products that can cause anxiety among the people, which includes the race and religion context," he said during the 62nd PAS Youth Muktamar in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan that was streamed live on Facebook on Saturday (Oct 30).

"This is the policy after we have objected to it," said Tuan Ibrahim, who is also Environment and Water Minister.

Several quarters from the Muslim community had voiced their opposition against the use of the name for the alcoholic beverage.

The manufacturer had explained that the name pays tribute to Malaya's history in tin mining, and the man pictured on the label was Captain Tristram Speedy, an English officer in Malaya during the British colonial era.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi had also said that the manufacturer had agreed to consider changing the name and image of its product.
