And they were furious when he brewed a beer named after his response to them — “Jog On”.

They also accused him of booting the darts team from the Yorkshire Dales pub.

Andy, from elsewhere in the county, said of the farming -village: “They don’t like me because I’m a lad from Wakefield who’s made a bit of money and I speak my mind.

“They are woke people who would rather be keyboard -warriors and post on social media about me.”

He and wife Mandy bought the 19th century Farmers Arms in tiny Muker in 2020. They quickly earned five-star reviews on Tripadvisor for her cooking.

But one-star reviews also appeared, with one telling of “unfriendly rudeness”. Another called Andy a “miserable bloke”.

"He even brewed a beer called Jog On after making it his catchphrase to throw at anyone who complained.”

Ex-squaddie Andy, also a former pro rugby league player, said he had warned the darts team he was closing for renovations but they quit his pub.

He admitted focusing on meals for tourists, adding: “For some reason, the people in this village have turned against us.”

The pub is on the market for offers in the region of £575,000.
