JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has spoken out about the frequent flash floods that have been occurring in several areas in the state.
His Majesty decreed that the Johor Drainage and Irrigation Department and local councils should carry out the relevant studies at the flash flood-prone areas immediately.
“After that, the department and local councils should present the findings to me as soon as possible to identify those responsible for this issue.
“The high rainfall has caused certain places to experience flash floods, destroying properties and bringing negative impact to the residents.
“The disrupted drainage and irrigation system could be among the contributing factors of flash floods during the rainy season,” His Majesty told the Royal Press Office on Thursday (Sept 30).
Sultan Ibrahim advised residents, especially those staying in low-lying and high-risk areas, to take the necessary precautionary measures as the weather was unpredictable during this time.
At the same time, the district Disaster Management Committee, local councils and rescue agencies should also be on standby for floods, he added.
