Kota Setar district lock-up temporarily closed due to Covid-19 cases

       ALOR SETAR: The lock-up at the Kota Setar district police headquarters' is temporarily closed after over Covid-19 cases were detected there.

       "All new detainees will be temporarily housed at the Kepala Batas Police Station (for male detainees) and Anak Bukit Police Station (for females)," said Kota Setar district police chief Asst Comm Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir, adding that the lock up had been closed for a week.

       On Saturday (July 17), Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat told Bernama that the lock-up was temporarily closed after about 50 detainees and four policemen on duty tested positive for Covid-19 in July.

       Comm Kamarul Zaman said the outbreak at the district police headquarters was under control as all infected detainees had been transferred to three other detention centres in the state which have Covid-19 treatment and quarantine facilities.

       "Four detainees were admitted to hospital for treatment.

       "Out of the four infected police personnel, three were warded at Kulim Hospital and the other one self-quarantined at home," he added.

       He said sanitising works had been carried out at all affected areas.

       Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement on Saturday (July 17) said four clusters had been detected at detention centres.

       Bakti 2 in Negri Sembilan had the most cases at 402, Kolam Air 2 in Kedah (94), Tembok Choh 3 (79) and Tembok Tawakal Kluang in Johor (49).

       The Kolam Air 2 is the cluster detected at the Kota Setar district police headquarters.
