PETALING JAYA: A police report has been lodged by Umno Youth over a letter purportedly written by Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun stating Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has lost his majority to continue as prime minister.
The letter, purportedly from Azhar to Istana Negara informing the King that Muhyiddin was only supported by 100 MPs, has been making its rounds on social media since Wednesday.
Attempts by The Star to get a response from Azhar were futile as at press time.
Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki did not reveal where the police report was lodged, but said Azhar must immediately acknowledge the authenticity of the letter, because if Muhyiddin continues leading as prime minister, it could set a bad precedent where matters pertaining to government contracts can be disputed.
“A prime minister’s legitimacy is a very serious issue because it has huge implications on every administrative matter and government affair.”
