Spooky sightings on the London Underground have sparked rumours of hauntings, particularly after a teenage boy reported seeing "ghosts" near King's Cross station. Transport for London (TfL) disclosed through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request that in the past two years, there has been one legitimate report of paranormal activity at their stations.
The incident involved a troubled 15 year old on the Metropolitan line at King’s Cross in December 2023, who was adamant he had encountered "ghosts." The FOI request sought records of "paranormal activity at Tube, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth Line and Tram locations made to TfL since January 1, 2022."
TfL officers scoured London Underground incident reports for mentions of ghost, paranormal, spirit, apparition, ghoul, phantom, poltergeist, and banshee.

Most of the 156 findings were innocuous, often relating to being in "good spirits," which is usually code for having consumed alcohol. Additionally, over 1000 cases were found in the Customer Contact Centre database, but these are believed to mostly concern phantom or ghost Oyster card charges.
No paranormal incidents were recorded on the Trams, Elizabeth line, DLR, or London Overground services. Gemma Jacob, Senior FOI Case Officer, confirmed: "We have carried out a keyword search of all London Underground incident reports over the requested timeframe using the following words: ghost, paranormal, spirit, apparition, ghoul, phantom, poltergeist, banshee. "
"The search returned 156 results, but only one of them related to paranormal activity.
"This related to a distressed 15 year-old-boy at King’s Cross on the Metropolitan line in December 2023, who also mentioned that he had seen ghosts.

The unnamed requester also enquired about "any internal staff logbooks/documents for ghost sightings at the Aldgate East station."
Aldgate East's station history may pique interest given its vicinity to the infamous Jack the Ripper murder sites of 1888.Yet, Ms Jacob clarified that TfL holds no logs for "ghost sightings" at this location.
