While the incident was shocking to many tourists, Londoners have grown accustomed to the occasional controlled explosion due to old WW2 findings.

Just this May a suspected WW2 bomb was discovered at a building in south London, forcing around 40 people to be evacuated as tens of firefighters and police rushed to the scene.

The device was later declared safe, however, not before a 50m cordon was installed to keep the public safe.

The London Fire Brigade confirmed the incident was over by 8.45pm.

A spokesperson added: "There were no reports of any injuries. The item was declared safe by specialist police officers."
