More must be done to lower case numbers, say Malaysians

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians took to social media to voice their frustration over the high number of daily Covid-19 cases despite the movement control under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan. Financial analyst Daniel Lee said unlike the first movement control order in March last year, the current restrictions had not yielded the necessary results.

“The virus is already in the community and people are still not taking it seriously,” he said.

Facebook user Sashikala Rajaratnam said: “The government needs to come up with a way to open up safely. It’s a question of livelihood now as the infections are not going down.”

Supervisor T. Roshene Malar said the inter-district and interstate travel ban had caused families to be apart for a long time.

“But many people are still not taking vaccination seriously. There must be non-stop awareness on the importance of vaccination, focusing on rural areas,” she said.

Twitter user @amille48 said: “What difference does the control make? Absolutely none. The test positivity rate is exactly the same.”
