Speaking with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on This Morning, Dr Scott Miller issued a warning about the dangers of grass seeds to dogs. The vet said that the issue is more common than owners may think, being “in every single suburb of the UK” and causing problems “every day”.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Dr Miller used his segment to warn viewers of the dangers grass seeds pose to pooches.

Due to the time of year and the warmer weather, the vet said that grass seeds are becoming even more of an issue.

The seeds have sharp and pointy ends, meaning they can easily become "lodged in between a dog's toes" as well as "in ears and up noses."

Dr Miller said: "Please please all dog owners look out for these things.

“Examine your dog after you take them for a walk because you can pull them out easily.

"If not that will cause a lot of pain for your dog and a lot of pain for your wallet.”

The seeds were described as “little wheat sized horns” which he has encountered daily at his practice in recent weeks.

Issues created by the seeds are easily avoided if owners routinely check their dog’s paws and pull them out before they cause problems.

In a previous interview on the show last week, the TV vet said: "Grass seeds are absolutely everywhere so please check between the toes and in the ears of your little pooch, because grass seeds are everywhere and we’re seeing them every day.

"We’ve even got a tally on the wall behind me with how many we’re seeing so far and the numbers are sky rocketing.”
