PETALING JAYA: In efforts to promote reading and alternative methods of learning, UOA Group (UOA) has contributed RM90,000 worth of Kuntum magazines and The Star Digital Access for students in the Klang Valley.
From the total, RM60,000 will be used to distribute Kuntum magazines, a monthly edutainment magazine published by Star Media Group (SMG) Bhd that helps children between the ages of six and 12 in primary schools to develop their knowledge on topics such as mathematics, science, and language.
The remaining RM30,000 will be utilised to provide secondary schools students with The Star Digital Access, a paid digital membership for full access to all articles on TheStar.com.my and its app.
Representing UOA, its property director Cecelia Chan and general manager (human resources) Haikal Akmar made the pledge at a presentation ceremony at Menara Star on Monday. This was received by SMG chief executive officer Alex Yeow and chief revenue officer Lydia Wang.
With the sponsorship, Chan said UOA hoped to provide primary and secondary school students with the educational resources to enhance their learning experience that extends beyond the classroom.
“We believe that learning should continue despite the uncertainties brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This also serves as part of our educational outreach initiatives to support the continuation of active learning through reading materials and online access to information.”
She hoped that the effort would help to encourage students gain a broader range of knowledge and become lifelong learners.
“We appreciate SMG’s efforts on the meaningful cause as we recognise the importance of educational programmes for children and youths,” she said.
In a statement by UOA, it mentioned that the sponsorship was in line with the company’s commitment towards educational excellence and its corporate social responsibility programme that focused on supporting the younger generation through education- related programmes.
