A TOTAL of 231 young silambam exponents from the MGR Silamba Kazhagam school have set a new Kids World Records (KWR) with the largest online junior martial arts exhibition, Makkal Osai reported.
Kazhagam trainer Kaliswaran Rajagopal said the school organised classes and activities for youngsters to expose them to the ancient Indian martial art. The online exhibition was another way to keep students engaged during the Covid-19 pandemic, which has made holding physical classes difficult.
Students between the ages of four and 16 from Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak and Selangor took part in the record- setting event, which was witnessed and certified by KWR.
The students were from various backgrounds, including vernacular schools, secondary schools and national schools.
Kazhagam mahaguru Mohana Raman Subramaniam said the event was a major boost for the school in recruiting students and keeping the art form alive. He thanked all Kazhagam trainers who worked hard to make the event a success and dedicated the world record to founder mahaguru T. Subramaniam.
> The Indian Progressive Front (IPF) is said to be facing deregistration by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) due to irregularities in its management, the daily also reported.
The party has apparently been served with a notice by ROS to suspend all activities pending an investigation.
The move came following allegations of irregularities in its 2020 general assembly and the 2015 revision of the party’s Constitution.
The party, which is in the midst of preparing for its general assembly, intends to continue its activities, according to sources.
IPF, which was a splinter party of the MIC formed in 1990, can be deregistered according to the 1966 Societies Act if it continues to be active during the ongoing investigation.
