Yukio Edano

       Yukio Edano, leader of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, is assured of winning a seat in the Oct. 31 House of Representatives election.

       Edano, 57, defeated Hideki Makihara, 50, a former lower house member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, to secure his 10th victory in a general election.
