AMPANG: Four men were detained after allegedly extorting a restaurant owner in Taman Melawati.

       Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the suspects had demanded protection money from a Thai restaurant in Taman Melawati here on Monday (Feb 14).

       “However, police were alerted and we managed to detain the four men, aged from 27 to 44.

       “We also seized their mobile phones, a car and an envelope containing cash,” he said on Tuesday (Feb 15).

       One of the suspects, he said, had a criminal record.

       “They also tested negative for drugs. They have been remanded for further investigation,” he said.

       ACP Mohamad Farouk urged those with information on any criminal activity to contact the police as soon as possible.
