JOHOR BARU: An offer by Datuk Hasni Mohammad for Johor Pakatan Harapan assemblymen to be observers in their district action committee meetings has been rejected.

State PKR deputy chairman Jimmy Puah said the offer by the Johor Mentri Besar during the tabling of the state budget for 2022 was “unfair” to their position as elected representatives.

The Bukit Batu assemblyman said Pakatan assemblymen should be given better and clearer positions at the action committee meetings.

“As observers, we cannot raise local issues that affect the people within our constituencies during district action committee meetings.

“We do not want to go to the meeting just to watch it while eating kuih as we can’t voice out the problems and find solutions,” Puah told a press conference on the sidelines of the Johor assembly meeting yesterday.

He added that all 27 Pakatan assemblymen agreed to reject the offer, while Johor Opposition chief Aminolhuda Hassan had already notified Hasni.

He said they would also table a motion on the matter if the state government does not change its offer.

“Hasni has the political will to make changes and he has shown it many times before, and we will see in his winding-up speech this Sunday whether he has a better offer for us,” he added.

On Thursday, during the tabling of the state budget, Hasni also announced that all 56 state assemblymen would each receive an annual allocation of RM200,000 for their constituencies.

In his speech, he added that assemblymen would also receive an additional RM50,000 a year to help organise celebrations for major festivals such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and others.
