JOHOR BARU: Travel plans for Christmas and work have been foiled by the floods in Selangor as waters remain high in many areas in the Klang Valley.
Alex Anbrasan, 34, said his sister, who lives in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, was supposed to return to Johor Baru with her husband and three children for the festive holidays today but was forced to cancel her plans.
“Although her house in Shah Alam was not flooded, the roads outside her housing area’s security guard post were inundated, limiting their movements.
“My sister could not drive back to our family home in Taman Pulai Utama even if she wanted to as the Jalan Kota Kemuning Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) was flooded, too.
“The electricity supply at her home was also cut off since the floods started on Saturday so her family only relied on power banks to charge their mobile devices.
“She also told us to send messages instead of calling to save power on her mobile phone. We are very worried about them as they have a two-month-old baby to take care of,” he said.
Thankfully, his sister had stocked up on food and groceries prior to the incident so her family still had enough to eat, he said, adding that his brother-in-law mentioned that the rain was on and off in Kota Kemuning.
Anbrasan said his family was looking forward to a Christmas reunion after spending the festive season apart for the past two years.
“However, the most important thing is my sister and her family’s safety and we will continue to pray for them and the other flood victims. We can organise another gathering again soon after the situation improves,” he added.
Meanwhile, automation company owner Edwin Yip’s plans to travel to Shah Alam to meet his client yesterday were also cancelled due to the floods.
“I was supposed to travel there for an overnight trip to meet a logistics company until the client sent me photos of the floods.
“We had no choice but to postpone our meeting to a later date as I believe that they need time to tend to many things,” he said.
