PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases jumped slightly to 5,594 but stayed below the 6,000 mark for four days in a row.
During the weekend, the daily cases were 4,854 on Saturday and 4,885 on Sunday.
In the daily Covid-19 statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of yesterday’s cases, 98.5% or 5,509 cases were mild and asymptomatic infections.
“Another 85 cases or 1.5% are those in Categories 3, 4 and 5,” he said.
There were 24 imported cases involving 15 Malaysians and nine foreigners.
Cumulatively, Malaysia recorded a total of 2,597,080 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.
In the past seven days, the average number of Covid-19 cases has been 5,719.
The Klang Valley recorded 1,781 cases on average in the last seven days.
The country’s infectivity rate as of Monday remained unchanged at an RT level of 1.0.
Malaysia also discharged another 4,908 patients in the same 24-hour span.
This brings the total of Covid-19 recoveries to 2,498,345, which is a 96.2% recovery rate.
Currently, there are 532 patients in intensive care units, of which 424 are confirmed Covid-19 cases and 108 are suspected.
There are 266 people on ventilator support.
The Health Ministry has also identified 10 new Covid-19 clusters nationwide. Nationwide, there are currently 231 active clusters.
According to the Health Ministry’s Covidnow website, the number of active cases as of Monday is 67,986.
About 80% of the cases have mild or asymptomatic infections and are currently undergoing home quarantine.
The Covid-19 death toll is 30,063 after 63 newly-reported fatalities were registered on Monday.
The Covidnow website also showed that there were 491 deaths in the last 14 days.
The death trend is showing a decrease of 14% while the average number of Covid-19 hospitalisations nationwide in the past seven days is 1,196 – a decrease of 5%.
