JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested three people, including a married couple, for allegedly supplying drugs to private parties and entertainment centres here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said police also seized drugs weighing over 21kg and worth over RM1mil.

He added that police first arrested a 23-year-old man during a raid at an apartment here at around 9am on Nov 10, seizing drugs said to be Ecstasy and ketamine.

“Following information, police then carried out a raid at another apartment, which led to the arrest of the husband and wife, aged 53 and 59, at around 2pm on the same day,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here yesterday.

Comm Ayob Khan added that the police seized 21.1kg of ecstasy, 78.6g of ketamine, 1.8g of syabu, 90 Ecstasy pills and 170 Erimin 5 pills from the two apartments.

“The suspects would rent gated-and-guarded apartments to use as drugs stores to supply to private parties and entertainment centres,” he said.

He said one of the suspects tested positive for drugs, while two had prior cases involving drugs and criminal activities.

He added that besides the drugs, police also seized a vehicle worth RM70,000 and RM3,495 in cash from the suspects who are under remand until Nov 17.

In an unrelated case, Comm Ayob Khan said police arrested two men, including an Indonesian, after they were found with 14.5kg of ganja worth RM36,392 near a restaurant in Kota Tinggi on Nov 9.

He said the suspects, aged 39 and 49, were arrested at about 3pm and that the Indonesian was an illegal immigrant who had stayed in the country for five years.

“They were believed to be smuggling drugs to a neighbouring country using a sea route,” he said, adding that the group has been active since July.

He said police also seized a sports utility vehicle and motorcycle worth RM125,000 and cash worth RM1,401 from the two suspects.

Comm Ayob Khan also said that one of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine, while the other had a criminal record.

“They are being remanded until Nov 16 to assist with ongoing investigations,” he said, adding that both cases were being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
