PETALING JAYA: Safe and efficient public transport options must be taken into account in Bandar Malaysia’s masterplan, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister said this is necessary to reduce congestion and carbon footprint in the modern flagship centre in Kuala Lumpur.
“I stressed that Bandar Malaysia's development must consider efficient and safe micro-mobility and public transport options into account to reduce congestion and carbon footprint in the modern flagship centre in KL,” Dr Wee said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (April 12).
“The Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) management has assured a mixed model of transport development for walkability including having non-motorised vehicles like bicycles in Bandar Malaysia's development,” he added.
Dr Wee said this after chairing a discussion on the Bandar Malaysia masterplan at the Transport Ministry. The briefing session was also attended by its secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak and secretary-general of the Treasury Datuk Seri Asri Hamidin @ Hamidon.
They were briefed by TRX City's (Tun Razak Exchange) top management led by chief executive officer Datuk Haji Azmar Talib on Bandar Malaysia's proposed public transport infrastructure and its current status.
“We focused on the public transport and mobility needs in the major upcoming KL development as it will host terminals for both the MRT2 and MRT3 line, and very likely the HSR in the future. Therefore, it is important to integrate these factors in the planning now,” Dr Wee said.
Dr Wee added that his ministry will also be monitoring the development closely to ensure transport needs are well met and integrated based on sustainable practices.
Bandar Malaysia is a 486-acre transit-oriented mixed development project.
