PETALING JAYA: The phones have been ringing off the hook at car repair shops here as people seek appointments to get their vehicles fixed following the massive floods that hit various parts of the Klang Valley.
An owner of a repair shop in Damansara Jaya, Eric Chin, said there was a surge of calls from such car owners.
“There have definitely been many calls,” he said when contacted yesterday.
The callers’ request for help came about as their cars had been submerged in water due to the floods.
Many residents in the affected areas, including in Setia Alam and Bukit Raja as well as Meru in Klang, were forced to spend the night in their cars when roads to their homes were flooded.
Chin said many of the vehicle owners had queried about electrical and engine issues.
“They also asked to check whether there was any engine control unit failure,” he added.
Fauzi Rodzali, a mechanic from Hulu Langat, said he had also fielded numerous calls from car owners.
“One car owner told me that his car was submerged in floodwaters for more than five hours.
“He is unsure whether his car can even function,” he added.
Others wanted to know if they could start their car once it was submerged.
“Some people also asked about fuse problems or if the wiring in their dashboard was affected,” said Fauzi.
Most of his customers were from Petaling, Shah Alam and the surrounding area, he added.
Several states across the peninsula have been hit by extremely heavy and persistent rain over the past few days that caused rivers to overflow their banks and flood several areas.
