IPOH: Cash incentives await the Paralympic athletes from Perak who bring back a medal from the games in Tokyo.
State Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia committee chairman Khairul Shahril Mohamad said four athletes are competing at the games.
He said a gold medallist would receive RM25,000, a silver medallist RM15,000 and a bronze medallist RM10,000.
“The athletes from Perak are Cheah Like Hou (Badminton), Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin (Cycling), Chee Chaoming (Table Tennis), and Abu Samah Borhan (Wheelchair Tennis).
“Before they left, the state government allocated RM5,000 to each of them,” he said in a reply to Dr Jurij Jalaludin (Lubuk Merbau-Umno) who asked about the incentives during the state assembly sitting on Thursday (Aug 26).
Khairul said national diver Chong Jun Hong who hails for Ipoh and who won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro received RM15,000 as well as an apartment unit.
“The state government has always been concerned about the welfare of our athletes.
They will always receive incentives before, and after the games, just like what we did for the three athletes from Perak competing in the Olympics,” he added.
