ALOR SETAR: Penang should not be worried about mega projects being lined up in Kedah as they were not meant to compete, says Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

The Kedah Mentri Besar added that mega projects such as the proposed Kulim International Airport (KXP) will be built to complement Penang International Airport (PIA) in Bayan Lepas and not as a competitor.

"It is known that with lack of land, efforts to expand PIA cannot be done. Therefore the development of KXP will complement PIA and not be a competitor," he told Mohd Azam Abd Samat (PAS-Sg Limau) during the state assembly session on Tuesday (Sept 21).

Muhammad Sanusi (PAS-Jeneri) said as a good neighbour, the state government will always maintain goodwill with neighbouring states and ensure that Penang will not feel threatened by Kedah's development projects.

However, he reminded the Penang government not to interfere in Kedah's administrative affairs as it was improper.

"Penang should realise that it is not a state that exists by itself and history has recounted that it was a state leased from Kedah," he added.

Sanusi also spoke on five high-impact projects in the state, namely Kedah Science and Technology Park (KSTP), Kota Perdana, Kedah Rubber City (KRC), KXP and the Sidam Logistics and Aerospace and Manufacturing Hub (SLAM).

He said these projects will transform the economical landscape of Kedah and provide thousands of job opportunities for Kedahans.
