During the exchange, the woman told Tammi to "have a lovely day" before making a getaway.
When Tammi opened the envelope, she was shocked to find a £10 note with a sincere handwritten note explaining the motive behind her kind gesture.
The woman, who signed the card off 'Jason's mum', said her son had died from SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death In Epilepsy) aged 25.
Jason's mum wrote: "My son loved Birthday cake, actually he liked most cakes.
"Please buy a cake and enjoy it with your family, cake is good any day of the year, not just on a birthday.
"Family is so important, spending time with family is such a precious GIFT!"
