PESHAWAR: Caretaker Chief Minister Mohammad Azam Khan has said the newly merged tribal districts require special attention and cooperation of the friendly countries and donor agencies.

He said that tribal districts lagged behind in development as compared to other areas due to decades-long militancy and required more attention, especially in basic infrastructure development.
Mr Khan said this in a meeting with the newly-posted US Consul General in Peshawar, Bante Moore, at Chief Minister’s House, according to a statement issued here on Monday.
He said that the caretaker provincial government highly valued the US government and its donor agencies’ cooperation in various sectors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He expressed the hope that the US would continue to extend its support to the province.
The chief minister told the US consul general that police infrastructure in tribal districts required substantial improvement to ensure law and order. He added that advancement of educational opportunities for girls was also one of the top priorities of the government.
The statement said that Mr Khan and the US consul general discussed matters of mutual interest, cooperation and collaboration among the provincial government and US donor agencies in different sectors.
During the meeting, Mr Moore stated that the US government would continue to support public welfare initiatives in KP in collaboration with provincial government and public. He added that the US government desired to work on the preservation of archaeological sites, historical buildings and cultural heritage of the province.
